Thomas Jefferson Wilson was born in Vincennes, in the Indiana Territory. He was one of seven children. An 1834 graduate of Indiana College (now IU), he was a farmer. Wilson’s father, Walter, died in 1838. His mother died in 1865. For four years, Wilson was probate judge of Cass County, Indiana. He died in 1876 in Logansport.
Wilson married Mary Ann Dodds. Their son, Samuel, was born in 1839. Their second child, Walter, born in 1854, died in infancy. Mary Ann died in 1855. In 1866, Wilson’s nephew, Alexander, a Civil War veteran, drowned in the Osage River while attempting to swim a horse across.
