Homer Wheeler was born in New York in 1819 and moved to Bristol, Indiana. He was baptized in the college chapel as a student by President Reverend Andrew Wylie. An 1846 graduate of IU, Wheeler attended the Nashotah Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. He served as a preacher of the Gospel, rector of St. John’s Parish in Bristol, Indiana, and of St. Peter’s Church in Ashtabula, Ohio, and was chaplain of St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1878, he went to California for his health, but he died soon after his arrival there.
