Thomas Dinwiddy Weir obtained his bachelor’s degree from IU in 1839. He died in 1851.
Weir married Margaret Hattabaugh in Washington, DC, in 1842. Returning to Bloomington, they had three sons and three daughters. Their daughter, Martha, died as an infant in 1850. The remaining five children were aged newborn to seven at the time of Weir’s death. His widow lived for another forty-nine years after his death.
Weir’s son, Alfred, settled in Grays Harbor County, in the Washington Territory, and was a doctor. His son, Oscar, was in the military, remained in Indiana, and lived until 1932. His daughters, Zora and Mary Ellen, stayed in Indiana. Mary Ellen married a German widower with five children. They had three more children together and many grandchildren. Mary Ellen’s son, William, fathered thirteen children and his brother, Charles, fathered ten children. Weir has many living descendants.
