Paul Sieg was born in Virginia. His family moved to Indiana, and he was educated in Corydon. He held numerous positions throughout his life. He was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church, a farmer, a teacher, and a druggist.
From 1846 to 1850, Sieg taught in Louisiana, where he was instrumental in securing the passage of the 1847 Public School Law, which set up the administrative structure and oversight of Louisiana’s parish schools. He was principal of Corydon Seminary from 1851 to 1856. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Louisville Medical Institute in 1856. In 1860, he was the editor of the Corydon Argus. He died less than a week before the start of the Civil War on April 6, 1861.
In 1856, Sieg hired J. W. H. Littell (age sixteen) as a clerk for one year. Littell would later become a well-known captain and commander in the Union Army.
