George Sullivan Sheets
Life Experience
George Sullivan Sheets was born in Madison, Indiana, and educated there at Beaumont Parks’ Madison Academy. In 1837, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana College (now IU) at age nineteen. He also received a Doctor of Laws degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He worked as a lawyer. Five days before the Christmas of 1847, his younger brother, William, died at age twenty-seven. Sheets followed five years later in 1852.
