Lloyd Theophilus Posey
Life Experience
Lloyd Theophilus Posey was born the third of four children. His family lived in Opelousas Parish, Louisiana. His father died when he was four, and his mother died when he was seven. The four orphaned children were cared for by various aunts and uncles living in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Posey was brought to live in Corydon, Indiana. In 1831, he started attending Indiana College (now IU) at age 14. He graduated from IU with his bachelor’s degree at age 19. He studied law under Henry Eddy of Shawneetown, Illinois, before becoming his law partner. Posey was also a member of the Presbyterian church. He died in 1862.
Marriage and Family
In June 1848, Posey married Georgeanna Thornton. She was twelve years his junior, and she died just four years later at age twenty-two. Posey never remarried or had any children.
