Milton John Hight
Life Experience
Milton John Hight was treasurer of IU from 1862 to 1867. He lived in Bloomington all his life, working as a merchant and then a miller. In 1858, he became a member of Bloomington’s first volunteer fire department. He also served as justice of the peace for a while, and a school trustee.
Marriage and Family
Hight married Sarah McCalla of Bloomington in 1857. They had four children.
Interesting Anecdote
Hight’s daughter, Kate, was one of IU’s first forty female graduates, obtaining a Bachelor of Letters degree in 1880.
