Thomas Babington Graham resided in Jasper, Indiana. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from IU just six weeks before his fortieth birthday. He learned the saddler’s trade from his uncle and worked with leather and livestock all his life.
Graham’s first and second wives both died young and with no children. At age forty-one, he married Margaret Hyatt. Together they had seven children. Their son, Richard, served in the Civil War and later received a pension as an invalid disabled soldier. Their son, Ziba, was an early proponent of electrical power. Their grandson, John, died in a crash as a U.S. Army pilot, two months before Pearl Harbor.
Graham’s son, Ziba, built one of Indiana’s first coal-to-electricity power plants, which was called “the wonder of the age.”
