Samuel Levi Geiger was educated in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a lay member of the Episcopal church. He studied law under Chancellor George M. Bibb of the Louisville Chancery Court, but did not go on to practice law. During his senior year at Indiana College (now IU) in 1837, he organized Bloomington’s 4th of July celebration, which included a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Geiger was chairman of the board of trustees of the lunatic asylum in Anchorage, Kentucky. He also represented Jefferson County several times as a state representative to the Kentucky Legislature. He engaged for some time in steam boating, manufacturing, and farming. He died on Easter Sunday, 1875.
